Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an inadvertent collision with teammate Jones.
His teammate landed on the foot of Jokic, who promptly went down to the ground clutching his leg.
The 30-year-old, who tops the NBA season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest before sustaining the problem.
The player will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic realized something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, that's gut-wrenching, especially a player as talented as him. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Of course, currently, I'm more concerned just about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
