The United Kingdom Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russia's Funds to Fund the Ukrainian Military Campaign
The United Kingdom is prepared to move forward with employing the full worth of seized Russia's funds to aid Ukraine's defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.
In a joint statement, the heads of state of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany stated that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to participate in talks.
They clarified that the decision would be executed in close cooperation with the America.
UK penalties have blocked more than £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, until now, money allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had exclusively been drawn from gains and dividends earned on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their desire to advance efforts toward using the total worth of the frozen Russia's state funds to end the war.
He stated that additional measures soon would heighten the tension on Moscow.
This statement comes after European representatives met in Copenhagen recently to discuss using frozen Russia's holdings for a €140bn financial aid to Ukraine.
