The Renowned Musician Encourages Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of artists featured on Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The track showcases a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the project have stated that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
