That Gruesome Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Audiences
Out of every mature animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spain-based filmmaker created a dark, somber and often savage universe with some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.
Although Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from an impulse to push animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was actually a try to convey a universal, cross-cultural message regarding “the common origin of every conflict.”
That idea is expressed by means of a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly based on a famous line of cuddly figures.
Growing up in a culture centered on warmongering as well as the defense industry, many of the bears are obsessed with exterminating unicorns, because of a holy book that claims them they were once rulers of the woodland, before the unicorns drove them out.

Bluey is a bully , an apparent sociopath , and while terror overcomes his squad and takes his teammates sequentially, he seizes more and more power on his own behalf, via progressively gory, harmful methods.
At the same time, the horned creatures are suffering their own horror, in the form of a spreading, deadly beast in their woods.
“At the beginning, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the director said. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and sad movie. And ultimately, it’s a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the most playful films from a legendary animator, that discover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters curse, engage in violence, or sex each other up.
Then it turns into more akin to a darker work by that same artist, with increasingly visual gore and a palpable connection to the actual suffering of battle.
In the finale, it’s a full-on Grand Guignol massacre.
