Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
