Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
