Tehran is willing to reinitiate atomic discussions with the United States on condition that it is handled with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.

The Iranian diplomat said solely negotiations produced results, and revealed fresh requests had come from mediators to reopen talks with the Trump administration. He said Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to authorize the global atomic watchdog to inspect bombed nuclear sites for safety concerns.

Walking a Difficult Course

Araghchi is treading a challenging course since Iran wishes not to appear to be operating from a stance of vulnerability, and he consistently maintained that Iran had emerged more resilient in military terms and psychologically from the joint assault on its atomic facilities in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an absolute privilege to process nuclear material domestically that it will perpetually retain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the prior discussions.

Prior Talks Suddenly Ended

The earlier sessions of talks between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with American backing, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a 12-day war that culminated with the American leader declaring the facilities had been eliminated. Following this, EU nations used their privilege to restore global restrictions, but Iran asserts they have not had a substantial consequence.

Magic Solution Offered

Iranian officials stated they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could refine atomic fuel. Both sides would have been able to claim victory since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.
