Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Involving Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a former physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were under his care.
The Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A senior prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Police Inquiry
The charges come after what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
Authorities have asked individuals with information to contact the investigating team.
