Tim Southee

Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against England in the final month of 2024.

England's bowling consultant Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on December 2 in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Commenting as the English squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, Southee stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the present time.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the series, which starts on 21 November.

"In my view there's ever a bad Aussie side," he said.

"The team's attention is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [the English] side that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.

"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

However, before England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
