Democratic lawmakers Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced anger after Donald Trump charged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and declared they should be detained and penalized "by death" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Provoked the Dispute

The recorded message, shared on Tuesday, features six Democratic lawmakers who previously acted in military or defense positions.

"As we did, you all swore an vow to protect and defend this founding document," the representatives stated in the short video. "And right now, the threats to our governing document don't only come from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our statutes are clear, you can decline illegal orders, you can refuse illegal orders, you must reject unlawful commands. No one has to execute orders that break the statutes or our national charter."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The clip seemed to prompt a heated reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he declared: "This represents really serious, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives React

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Democratic leadership issued a combined statement censuring the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no role in America," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all served our nation with tremendous loyalty and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful threats of violence against members of Congress, and appeal to Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in contact with security officials "to ensure the protection of these representatives and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme digital publications and withdraw his aggressive language before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Representatives' Defiant Reaction

The representatives who participated in the video also published a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who love this United States and took an pledge to defend and uphold the constitution of the United States," they said. "That oath is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No warning, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will stop us from that important duty."

"What's most telling is that the former president considers it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to repeat the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their support as they carry out their pledge to the constitution and obligation to follow only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must join forces and censure the president's requests for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Further Governmental Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's remarks and posted on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the death of elected officials."

He stated: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, every American – without partisan consideration – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the government instructing soldiers to ignore directives, I think that's without precedent in American history."

The GOP official also according to sources stated to journalists that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the violation of sedition" but that "lawyers have to examine the language and establish all that."

White House Reaction

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a journalist, "Is the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the White House press secretary answered: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the president is responding to," the official stated. "We see active officials of the federal government who conspired to orchestrate a recorded statement to personnel of the national defense, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's legal commands."

She added: "The sanctity of our defense system rests on the hierarchy, and if that system is violated, it can lead to casualties, it can result in disorder, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are essentially supporting."
