Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
